‘Better Blogging’ home page

Oh no, not another ‘expert’ guide to better blogging …

Yeah, I know. Wander around the blogosphere for long enough – five minutes should be more than sufficient – and you will inevitably come across yet another blogger promising that you will soon raking in hundreds of thousands of pounds a year if you just follow their ‘X easy steps to success’ guide.

This is not one of those guides. If it was really that simple we would all be sipping champagne in the back of our Bentleys by now. Becoming a millionaire blogger requires a great idea, hard work and a smidgen of luck. But it’s not that difficult to become a better blogger.

So, why follow me?

I’ve been blogging in various guises since 2007. On top of a full-time job and bringing up three kids, I own two blogs – this one and a TV features/reviews site – and I also run a cycling website with an editorial team of seven. Consequently I don’t sleep very much. I also earn a regular income from my writing, producing regular TV-related posts for the Metro newspaper website. Not enough to make a living from, but it helps fuel my gadget habit.

Here’s the bottom line:

  • I understand what sets good writers apart from mediocre ones.
  • I’m an experienced editor who knows how to improve other people’s posts.
  • I’m fully aware of the challenges of trying to produce professional(-ish) output on a part-time basis.

I’m not saying I’m the world’s greatest blogger (far from it) but I do have a good eye for what can be done to improve anyone’s skills and effectiveness. And that’s what this ‘Better Blogging’ series is all about. Whether you’re a newbie or an established blogger looking to take your writing to the next level, you’ll find some easy practical tips to improve different aspects of your blogging. From the basics of getting started to eliminating common errors to engaging and building your audience, there’s something for everyone here.
