A #BiBs2018 parody song: Will I Win Readers’ Choice?

Will I Win Readers' Choice? BritMums #BiBs2018 Awards

A few weeks ago I published a parody song based on Moana‘s You’re Welcome. I was asking for nominations for the 2018 BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards: the BiBs. Thanks to everyone who voted for me, I’ve been named as one of eight finalists in the Readers’ Choice category. So now I’m back to ask for your votes one last time.

This is the third year in a row I’ve been in contention for the award. I’m pretty chuffed with that. But in terms of actually winning, I’m 0-for-2 thus far. Will it be third time lucky? Or am I destined to be always the bridesmaid and never the bride?

That’s for others to decide as the polls reopen. So if you have enjoyed my blog posts, parody songs and podcasts, I would love it if you would now consider voting for me. The competition for Readers’ Choice is unquestionably fierce. And while there’s no shame in losing to any of my rivals for the award, I would dearly love to win. A guy can dream, right?

You can cast your votes here. The polls close at 11:45pm on Friday 21st September.

If you need convincing, I’ve penned a new parody song for the occasion. So, with apologies to Michael Stipe and R.E.M., here’s my request for your support.

Will I Win Readers’ Choice? (to the tune of Losing My Religion)

The polls are open
They’re open
For votes and we all know that
The BiB Awards are coming
And we need your support
Oh no, I begged too much
I begged enough

That’s me on the shortlist
That’s me in the final
Will I win Readers’ Choice?
Trying to triumph at last
And I’m doubting that I can do it
I know I hope too much
Don’t think I’m good enough

I know that people are voting
I hope that they’ll vote for me
But deep inside I fear they won’t

Every new tweet
And every Facebook update
I aim to be persuasive
Trying to earn a vote or two
Like a homeless and desperate fool, fool
Oh no, I begged too much
I begged enough

Please vote for me
Please vote for me
Is that subtle enough?
Please vote for me
The guy who writes these
Parodies, me
What if all my dreams get crushed?
A failure again?
I think I hope too much

I know that people are voting
I hope that they’ll vote for me
But deep inside I fear they won’t

It makes me want to sing
Makes me want to sing

That’s me on the shortlist
That’s me in the final
Will I win Readers’ Choice?
Trying to triumph at last
And I’m doubting that I can do it
I know I hope too much
Don’t think I’m good enough

I know that people are voting
I hope that they’ll vote for me
But deep inside I fear they won’t

It makes me want to sing
Maybe
It’s me
Makes me want to sing, want to sing, want to sing
Sing

And here’s the original – an all-time classic video for an all-time classic track.

You can vote in any or all of the 11 Brilliance in Blogging categories via the BiBs 2018 voting form.

Thanks everybody – and good luck to all my fellow finalists.

Voting closes at 11:45pm on Friday 21st September.
