My Sunday Photo: Read all about it

Technology is second nature to our kids but it’s pleasing to see them doing some things old school-style too.

As accustomed as they are to doing school projects with the aid of PowerPoint and Wikipedia, they’re equally likely to sit down with paper and pens to create their own cards for birthdays and other special occasions. They will play Minecraft and other games but they’re also big fans of traditional card and board games such as Monopoly, Dobble and our latest investment, Exploding Kittens.

And while Isaac, the most voracious reader of the three, is currently speeding his way through the e-book versions of the Harry Potter series, he’s also a weekly subscriber to the children’s newspaper First News.

Newspapers were a big part of my youth. They were a source of news and the cryptic crossword provided a regular bonding experience for me and my father. So to see Isaac absorbed in his own world of newsprint is like a callback to my own childhood, although where I once did the crossword he now does sudoku instead.

I look forward to a time when we can all curl up in bed with the Sunday papers. Especially if the kids learn to bring us breakfast in bed too …
