My Sunday Photo: What are little girls made of?

What is Kara made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice?

I don’t know when or how little girls discover that they can get away with things their brothers can’t simply by fluttering their eyelids and smiling coquettishly but Kara mastered this art at an early age.

She’s certainly one of life’s ‘characters’. Where some people run a mile the moment they see a spotlight – I’m one of them – Kara is one of those who immediately run towards it. She likes to be the centre of attention and to perform with a flourish. It’s possible I may have used words such as ‘diva’ and ‘drama queen’ in reference to her, sometimes in exasperation but generally with a chuckle.

I love her attitude. Nothing is beyond her.

She was trying on a new dress the other day, one that had been passed on to us by a friend with an older daughter. I asked her to pose for a photo and without being asked any further she immediately started tossing her head back and pouting for the camera, with this shot being the end result.

It’s *so* Kara. Where Isaac is cautious and Toby is quiet, Kara is never afraid to express herself openly. And she’s not even five yet. She’s going to be one hell of a teenager … a little bit of sugar and a whole lot of spice.
