My Sunday Photo: Getting into the festive spirit (at last)

I’ve been studiously ignoring the fact that Christmas is fast approaching for the past couple of weeks. Until now, that is. I’m in the festive spirit at last.

It’s not that I’ve gone all Scrooge-like. Ever since the kids came along I’ve fallen back in love with Christmas and fully embraced the magic of the holiday season. However, I’ve been focussed on a major project culminating in a four-day trip this week to Gothenburg in Sweden – I arrived back home barely two hours ago – which has meant pushing all thoughts of trees, decorations and presents to the back of my mind while I concentrate on surviving a succession of 16-hour work days.

However, last night I took a few hours off to venture out to the Liseberg amusement park in central Gothenburg with a couple of work colleagues to enter a winter wonderland of snowmen and gaudily lit trees – no actual snow but more than cold enough to feel like the North Pole – taking in dinner and a stroll around the Christmas market where, of course, a proverbial fool doting father and his money were soon parted.

Say hello to the latest members of our family.

While a spot of retail therapy always helps to put me in a better mood, the relief of seeing the completion of a major project means that now I’m home I can really start to focus on the festivities ahead.

Two weeks and counting …
