My Sunday Photo: The day after the summer holiday

… Also known as ‘The Unseen Summer Holiday Photo’.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve all seen photos of happy children enjoying their summer holidays. We’ve probably posted some of our own. In the interests of keeping it real, we may even have thrown in some images of their tired, end-of-day meltdowns or selfies of ourselves tearing our hair out or waving a well-earned glass of wine at the camera.

I’m no different. This year marked the first time we had tried to take the kids away for more than a week at a time. 16 days in Disneyland Paris (check out my photo record and Disney review and tips), Paris and the French Alps provided ample opportunities for family photos and moody shots of landscapes and landmarks.

But here’s the inevitable end result of all that excitement and walking about as the family dragged themselves out of bed the morning after we arrived back and collapsed on the sofa. Happy, yes, and with many great memories of what had been a fantastic couple of weeks. But absolutely running on empty tanks.

In truth, it’s taken them pretty much the entire week to recover – just in time for the boys to go back to school on Monday. (Kara doesn’t join them for a further 1½ weeks.) It may not look that way in the photo, but I think the kids would agree it was worth the effort. But for one morning and one morning only, all was quiet for once in the house.
