My Sunday Photo: The youngest swinger in town

Hang on, is that big yellow thing in the sky actually the sun?

Like many others, we made the most of last weekend’s sudden upturn in the weather. We visited friends for barbecues on both Saturday and Sunday, delighting in the opportunity to eat burnt chunks of animal flesh outside while the children ran around in the garden, bouncing on trampolines and improvising water slides with the aid of an ordinary slide, a hosepipe and a paddling pool.

You’ve got to make the most of the great British summer while you can, don’t you? After all, there’s about a 50:50 chance it will be over by mid-June.

She may be the youngest of our three but Kara is the first to embrace summer. Out come the summer dresses, the Crocs (sometimes she even puts them on the right feet) and a smile that lights up her face like the sky on a cloudless day.

She was the first down the water slide, cackling with delight as she splashed into the pool below, but she’s at her happiest propelling herself as high as she can on a swing. Focussed, fun and fearless – here’s a girl for whom summer cannot come soon enough or last long enough. I hope she gets her wish this year.

I have been shortlisted in the Readers’ Choice category for the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging (BiB) Awards. Click here (or on the badge below) to vote in both this and the 11 other categories in this year’s awards. The polls close at midnight on Wednesday 18th May.
