Things are different when you have a daughter following on from two sons.

Not that we promote gender stereotypes but, ever since the end of Isaac’s pink phase, the boys have settled into typically masculine pursuits: Minecraft, Top Gear and other gadgety stuff.

Kara can be feisty and tomboyish but there’s no mistaking she’s a girl at heart. One who loves nothing more than to dress up and tie her hair into ponytails and plaits. And now she has her own clothing rack on which to hang up all her dresses, which she seems delighted with.

It’s the thin end of the wedge. I give it five weeks before she starts demanding a walk-in wardrobe.
