I like to think we have brought up kids who have reasonable expectations when it comes to birthdays and Christmases. And then Toby handed us his Christmas list.

Sweets, chocolate coins (a family tradition), toy cars and a new scooter seem reasonable enough. A pet cat is understandable – a pet owl slightly more problematic, although lower down the list he does request a cuddly toy owl as well.

But examine a little closer and you will find his list of requests extends to an iPad and a laptop. Then a Rolls Royce Phantom. And, just to top it all off, a billion pounds. 

Good luck with that, son. I think that one might prove too much of a stretch even for Santa Claus …
