Podcast #11: Downs Side Up

Welcome to episode 11 of the Slouching towards Thatcham podcast, which brings you the voices of your favourite parent bloggers right to your computer or media player.

Every week a fellow blogger joins me to talk about one of their favourite posts and read it in their own voice. It’s as simple as that: bite-sized chunks of blogging brilliance!

This week’s guest is the multi-award winning Hayley from the blog Downs Side Up, who this year has been recognised in the Inspire category at BritMums’ Brilliance in Blogging awards and has also won the Outstanding Contribution award at the Tots100 MADs.

Hayley’s younger daughter Natty has the genetic condition Down’s syndrome. And yet she is as capable of lighting up the world around her just the same as any happy, young child, as illustrated in The Doctors’ Waiting Room: The contribution our daughter makes.

She’s also a finalist for Mumsnet’s Best Campaigner award, the winner of which will be announced at Blogfest in London next month. What odds a hat-trick of awards?

You can follow Hayley on her blog Downs Side Up, on Twitter @DownsSideUp and also on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

STT 2015 banner 6This week, I’m reading a post about how our daughter Kara, the youngest of our brood of three, has an impact on our family that belies her age.

Bossy boots tells the story of how our little girl rules the roost in our household, and how we wouldn’t have it any other way.
