How do you follow a post as powerful as Ryan’s?
You can’t, really. However, in the same way that depression is one of those subjects that, until comparatively recently, was largely considered taboo as a topic for discussion, I’ve also experienced what it’s like to have a family event that is considered off-limits.
In The brother who never was, I talk about my experience with infant mortality, the hole a short-lived sibling has left in my life and how it has influenced my values as a parent.
It’s one of the most difficult posts I have ever written – it took me more than three years and a dozen rewrites to complete. But it’s also one of the posts I’m most proud of.
