My Sunday Photo: Four-square

If a picture paints a thousand words, what are four pictures worth?

Four-square (adjective): firm and resolute.

Of all our children, Kara is probably my favourite photographic subject. She’s unselfconscious, expressive and her fiercely resolute yet fun-loving personality shines through in pictures.

This week the boys have been staying with their grandparents, so Kara has had our undivided attention for five days. I’ve been taking the opportunity to spend some one-to-one time with her, whether it has been playing games, chatting or just cuddling up on the sofa together as she watches her favourite TV programmes without having to compete with her brothers for screen time.

I took this photo of her as she was captivated by yet another episode of Team Umizoomi – I’m convinced she’s seen them all at least ten times by now – and then played around with it using various filters in the iPhone apps Snapseed and Fotor HDR to produce a set of contrasting images arranged four-square.

Personally, my favourite is the dramatic shading of the top-left image. What’s yours?
