Something for the weekend: Perspectives on blogging and love

Perspective. When it comes down to it, that’s what blogging is all about.

In committing finger to keyboard, we offer our perspectives on the world we live in. It’s a personal view – and a finely balanced one. Without perspective, we view molehills as mountains. With perspective, we see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

My favourite mum and dad posts this week each offer their own unique perspective.

Keeping perspective in blogging – Mummy Writes

Kelly has a strong perspective on what is and isn’t important in life. She’s a mother of four, the oldest of whom, Abigail, died in 2013 following a sudden brain haemorrhage.

I first came across Kelly on Chasing Dragonflies, the blog she devotes to Abigail’s memory and how her family have dealt with the resultant grief.

Mummy Writes is Kelly’s more general blog, and this week she wrote a fantastic post about Keeping perspective in blogging and not turning life’s little dramas into crises. (Readers of a certain age will recognise that I’ve borrowed the former advertising slogan of an insurance company here.) It’s something worth bearing in mind in life in general, not just in blogging.

Wanna Know What Love Is? – Dad Who Blogs

Dad of two Lewis celebrates ten years of marriage by pondering the nature of love in Wanna know what love is?

Rather than it being about big gestures and material gifts, he suggests it’s much more about the little and often intangible things, such as leaving a little ice cream in the tub for your partner to try. I agree.

Also, I can’t get that blasted Foreigner song out of my head. You know, this one …

Thanks for that, Lewis. Thanks a lot.
