Happy birthday, Kara: Three is the magic number

My little girl is growing up so fast. Three years old today.

It’s said that good things come in threes. The Three Musketeers. The Three Stooges.  The Godfather trilogy. Kirk, Spock and McCoy.  Writers even talk about the ‘rule of three’, the principle that things that come in threes are inherently funnier, more satisfying or more effective.

Kids tree stumpKara turns three today. We were undecided about whether we wanted a third child but I am so glad that we did. Our only daughter completes our family in so many ways, and has done ever since the day she arrived.

She loves wearing princess dresses and tiaras but she can also kick and throw a ball with the best of them.

She has a smile that lights up a room and a laugh that is utterly infectious but she is also fiercely determined and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

She is simultaneously an absolute delight and a feisty handful.

In short, she is everything I ever wanted in a daughter – and so much more besides.

Here, in sets of three photos, are a few examples of the big impact this little girl has had on our household.

Her two elder brothers have always been close to her, from the day she arrived …

… Through her infant period …

… And beyond. Three peas in a pod.

The smile that melts a father’s heart …

… and a variety of other faces.

Always dressing up.

And, three-by-three, a selection of other images that sum up her third year.

Happy birthday, Princess. (Although, since the new Thunderbirds series started, she now prefers to be referred to as John Tracy. Go figure.) Three years old today. May your fourth year be as happy and eventful as the ones that have preceded it.

And finally, in case there was ever any doubt, here is musical proof that three really is the magic number.
