Another week has passed – where does the time go? – and I’ve been enjoying reading some cracking posts from both dad and mum bloggers.

This week I’ve selected a pair of honest posts about negotiating toddlers and special days that aren’t necessarily all we’d hope they would be.

One Dad and his Sprog

Dan is a stay-at-home dad with a toddler daughter who has made the move from London to the rural surroundings of the Chilterns. I love his astute observations about life with a young daughter and making the adjustment from big city life.

This week he wrote about the negotiation skills that seem to develop almost overnight in most toddlers – do they go on some kind of secret training course or something? – which, if my experience is anything to go by, is just the beginning of the ongoing humiliation of being constantly outwitted and outmanoeuvred by your own offspring.

When Mother’s Day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be looks beyond the illusion of the romanticised view of Mother’s Day that seems to inundate our social media feeds but so few of us actually achieve. For many of us the reality is very different but there is solace in the knowledge that we are not alone – not by a long chalk.
