Something for the weekend: Young hearts, broken hearts

In the week following Valentine’s Day, my favourite dad and mum blogger posts both touched and broke my heart.

Dad Creek Without a Paddle

Ryan is a relative newcomer to the ranks of fatherhood, but his love for his seven-month-old daughter shines through in both his writing and his photos.

This week he wrote this Valentine’s letter, a beautiful reminder of the life-long bond between a daughter and her father, the first man she will ever love.

Headspace Perspective

One of the joys of blogging is that it connects you with the most unlikely of people and enriches your life by allowing you to share in their personal stories.

One year ago Leigh was just another excited 24-week-pregnant mum-to-be expecting her first child. And then everything changed.

She was diagnosed with life-threatening pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Hugo was born a year ago yesterday (Friday) soon after and passed away five weeks later but he lives on in Leigh’s work to raise awareness of issues surrounding long-standing taboos concerning baby loss, birth trauma and grief. Leigh’s eloquent perspectives on Hugo’s life and legacy are as heart-warming as they are heart-breaking.

To mark Hugo’s birthday, Leigh created a campaign to get the #HugosLegacy hashtag trending on Twitter. Check out both the hashtag and the blog.

If you have any suggestions for great posts by other bloggers you’ve read this week, feel free to add them in the comments below.
