Part of the joy of blogging is discovering the diversity and quality of fellow parent bloggers, so I’m starting up what will hopefully become a regular feature to highlight some of my favourite posts from the past week.

Every Saturday, I’ll share two posts: one by a mum blogger, the other by a dad. According to the Tots100 index of parent blogs, only 9% of their members are male – but I’ll be aiming for parity here to ensure the XY-chromosome brigade is equally represented.

Anyhow, that’s enough preamble. Here are my picks for this week.

Hurrah for Gin

Katie is a Brighton mum of two (in her words) ‘lively’ boys, which may explain her liking for juniper berry-based spirits and her always humorous posts illustrated with stick-figure drawings.

This week she pondered the fact that sorry seems to be the hardest word. I haven’t verified whether this was inspired by listening to too many Elton John songs, but this is a scenario with which any parent of young siblings will be painfully familiar. I laughed. A lot.

Dad Blog UK

John has what I consider to be one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs any man could have. He’s a stay-at-home dad with two young children, who writes about a variety of topics including equality issues, family finances and men’s style.

He is quite the media star at the moment too. You may have heard him recently on your local radio station talking about his new book A modern father (… and dad blogger), which you can buy on Amazon. But on Monday he also appeared on Channel 4 News to provide a dad’s perspective on the Labour Party’s proposals to improve paternity leave and statutory paternity pay for fathers.
