Our children have very different personalities but if there’s one characteristic they share it’s the love of a good bedtime story.

That’s particularly the case for Isaac, who seems to come back with a new book from school most days and has recently taken to quietly reading first thing in the morning, as he is usually awake before anyone else.

This photo was taken during a chaotic bedtime this week when all three kids were gathered in the boys’ new bedroom. With Toby and Kara about as still and calm as Zebedee after a triple espresso, Isaac picked up a book and settled down on the bottom bunk to read to himself. Within seconds he had blocked out all the noise around him, lost in the pages of a familiar story.
