He’s been sneakily working on developing some tricks in recent weeks – this was the first time I’d seen him do this one.

I love his confidence on the bike. He has the odd spill but he’s always right back on and riding again straight away.

He does. He loves the sense of freedom riding his bike gives him too. With his mum he rode a mile and a half (on pavements but having to cross roads too) to his martial arts class last week and loved it. Next he’ll be asking if he can ride on the road. Not just yet – but I’m sure the time will come sooner than we think.

He’s quite a confident lad in general, but it was his nonchalance that impressed me the most. He’ll be the next Mark Cavendish yet!

A helmet – always. We’ve been drilling that into all our kids right from their first scooter. Of course, it helps that I can point to pro cyclists as role models, as they all have to wear helmets in all races nowadays.

Bit of a daredevil on his bike then? Our nephews are like that – always building ramps and god knows what else to jump their bikes etc off.

He hasn’t gotten to the stage of building ramps and doing jumps yet, but I’m sure he’ll get there sooner rather than later.

Tricks and everything. I’d settle for my son just being able to ride without stabilisers (he’s not very confident physically).
